Superman and the Mole-Men – 1951

This was the first full-length feature film based on the character of Superman. The movie served as a trial run for the TV series, and starred George Reeves as Superman and Phyllis Coates as Lois Lane. When the Adventures of Superman TV series hit the air in 1952, the movie was split into two episodes and called “The Unknown People.”

The “ray gun” used by the Mole-Men (seen in the theatrical version but not in the TV series) was constructed from an Electrolux vacuum cleaner.

My next blog will feature the Adventures of Superman TV series, which ran from 1952 to 1958.
